Hi everyone.
I haven't made a specific post on this forum yet, but for some reason this particular MLK day has me feeling really thankful toward all of those individuals (specifically MLK, but anyone white black or otherwise) who aided in the civil rights movement. As you all know, I am particularly proud of all aspects of my identity, black being one of them.
In light of recent events in the news that stir the pot with regards to race relations, I feel the need to express gratitude that I have the right to vote, to live, to drink at the same water-fountain, to live in the same buildings and go to the same schools as my non-black peers.
It's something that modern-day kids/teens/young adults take for granted, including myself. MLK day is really, to most people, just a day to take off from school and work. I just wanted to make it a little more about what MLK day really means: freedom, for all of us, because we are one.
